The Symbolism of Easter
By: Brian Puckett, Vice Chairman Helena Beautification Board

In life, love and death flowers bring meaning and the symbolization of beauty, remembrance and joy. Each day for the last few weeks as I’m driving through Helena, I have been reminded of this each time I pass the large cross at the Methodist Church on the corner starting to fill with flowers.
With today being Good Friday, I think of the devastation of one that will end up leading those who follow to glory. The symbolism of Easter and flowers hold comparison on a multitude of different levels, but none more important than the rising. A flower starts off a mere seed with no life that is buried in the ground. With loving nurture, you provide to the seed and from the ground the seed will become a flower. A flower for all to see and benefit from.
I have never been one to shy away from my faith and particularly love this time of year as a new, full life season is beginning. This weekend, people’s faith intersects with flowers with the flowering of the Easter cross. Just as the Lilies have done, He is risen.
