Ironweed
(Vernonia lettermannii)
Native Perennial

You will never catch Ironweed slouching in your garden.  This native perennial gets its name due to the sturdiness of the flower stems. The brilliant purple flowers shoot up into the sky like a torch. If you are looking for a Fall bloomer, then Ironweed makes a great addition to any garden.

HOW TO PLANT

FIND A LOCATION - Ironweed thrives in full sunlight.  The location should be moist and can allow for brief flooding.
PLANT IT - One of the most simple plants to plant, simply take a "plug" out of the ground. The hole that you plugged should be as deep as the container is tall. Drop your Ironweed in the ground and cover back up with dirt.
WATER IT IN - After you plant your new native perennial you will need to water them in.  They will need water once week until they start to sprout.
ENJOY - Simplicity turns into beauty. They Ironweed that you plant will sure to be an eye catcher come the Fall.

**Growing Tip**
Ironweed likes moist soil and can even withstand occasional flooding. If you are looking to manage the height of your Ironweed, cut back the stems in late Spring.
